Vegetarian Teen Interview: Emma
Country: United States
At what age did you become vegetarian? 9 or 10
Why did you become vegetarian?
I felt like it was healthy and I wouldn’t be paying people to kill animals.
Were your parents supportive of your vegetarianism? What concerns did they have about it? How are your parents involved in your vegetarianism? Do they buy vegetarian food for you? Do they cook for you? Or do you have to buy your own food or cook for yourself?
My parents were very supportive of me. My mom’s a vegetarian too. They buy and cook for me.
How do your friends react to your vegetarianism? Are they supportive? Did vegetarianism change your social life? Have you ever been teased about it?
My friends are completely fine with it. I’ve never been teased about it.
What do you do to make sure you stay healthy on a vegetarian diet? Do you take any supplements? Do you count your food servings?
I don’t really focus on that very much. I just eat whatever is there 🙂
What’s a typical breakfast for you? A typical lunch? A typical snack? A typical dinner?
I usually eat oatmeal, or a bagel for breakfast. I have some fruit for lunch, and I usually have little microwavable foods like cheese pizza rolls and mozzarella sticks
Do you have any advice for other vegetarian teens?
Don’t be too focused on getting everything perfect at first. And listen to what your body is telling you. Usually if you crave a certain food, your body needs a vitamin that’s in it.
What do you do for fun? What are your after school activities? What are your favorite subjects in school?
I play a lot of instruments, and I’m involved in a play as of right now. My favorite subjects are science and art!
